For over 25 years, Community Connections has been a national leader in trauma treatment, training, and consultation. Led by Maxine Harris, PhD, the organization developed the Trauma Recovery and Empowerment Model (TREM)—an evidence-based, group intervention used nationally and internationally to address the impact of physical, sexual, and emotional abuse.

To support broader systems change, Community Connections also created Creating Cultures of Trauma-Informed Care (CCTIC)—a model designed to help agencies become trauma-informed through a focus on safety, trust, choice, collaboration, and empowerment.

Trauma Recovery and Empowerment Model (TREM)

TREM is a structured group-based intervention for trauma survivors—particularly women who have been socially and economically marginalized. The 18–24 session curriculum blends cognitive restructuring, psychoeducation, and skill-building to promote coping and reduce PTSD, depression, and substance use.

Adaptations are available for men, adolescents, LGBTQ+ individuals, transgender women, caregivers, and veterans. TREM has been implemented successfully across mental health, substance use, and criminal justice settings.

TREM Training Options

• In-Person Training: Two full days; $7,500 plus manuals and travel; up to 20 participants
• Virtual Training: Four consecutive mornings; $7,500 plus manuals; up to 20 participants
• Open Trainings: Two TREM and two M-TREM sessions offered annually; $500/person, includes 12 CEUs.

Creating Cultures of Trauma-Informed Care (CCTIC)

CCTIC supports agencies in creating environments rooted in the core trauma-informed principles of safety, trustworthiness, choice, collaboration, and empowerment—both for clients and staff. Through training and ongoing consultation, organizations develop tailored implementation plans, address burnout and systemic stress, and apply trauma-responsive practices throughout their operations.

Staff well-being is emphasized as a foundation for providing effective trauma-informed services. CCTIC consultation highlights the organizational responsibility for staff support and outlines multi-level responses to workplace stress.

CCTIC Training & Consultation Options

• Half Day: $1,875
• Full Day: $3,750
• Hourly: $500/hour
• Long-term consultation: Typically spans 1–2 years and includes guidance from a trauma-informed workgroup within the agency. Certification in the CCTIC model is the intended outcome.
