Our mission is to provide integrated behavioral health, supportive housing, homeless outreach, and health care coordination for marginalized and disenfranchised individuals living in the District of Columbia. Many of these individuals and families are coping with mental health, substance use disorders, and the aftermath of trauma and abuse.

Our History

Community Connections, founded by Helen Bergman, MSW, and Maxine Harris, PhD, opened its doors in 1984. Since then, we have grown from providing recovery and mental health services, to one of the largest not-for-profit provider that offers a continuum of care that includes behavioral health, supportive housing, affordable housing, homeless outreach, and integrated healthcare coordination for marginalized and disenfranchised individuals and families living in the District of Columbia. Many of these individuals are coping with challenges including mental illness, addiction, and the aftermath of trauma and abuse. Today, we provide comprehensive services to more than 6,000 people annually.

Community Connections effectively assists consumers cope with addictions, find housing, and recover from the impacts of trauma and violent victimization. We continue to be dedicated to providing integrated primary and behavioral care, allowing consumers to receive all of their care without disruption and with the greatest possible continuity and outcome.

Community Connections has been on the cutting edge of behavioral health care and treatment with national recognition for our clinical innovations, especially our work with individuals experiencing sexual, physical and emotional trauma. We remain proud of our accomplishments and are committed to addressing the evolving needs of the consumers and communities we serve.
